Who we are
Plasma, designed and built in Italy.
PURA is an innovative Italian company, founded in Ostuni, with patented atmospheric plasma technology. We design and manufacture highly efficient systems for the removal of odour, VOCs and bacteria, at laboratory scale and at industrial scale.
The technology is ours, and it is patented. It is based on atmospheric plasma. On the lines where it runs, from 1,000 m³/h to 140,000 m³/h, it has produced measurable results: cleaner air at the stack, for the people who work in the plant and for the people who live around it.
Our team is engineers and researchers. We develop both the laboratory machines, where the research is done, and the industrial units we install, so a result on the bench can become a setting on a line. The work is ongoing because the flows keep changing: a new sector, a new pollutant, a different concentration, and the plasma parameters have to be found for each one.
We also hold to one principle: innovation has to go hand in hand with sustainability. Every project we take on is designed to perform, and also to respect natural resources and the environment. A system that abates well while burning methane or changing out spent carbon is not, in our view, an innovation. Real innovation delivers the performance and keeps the ecological impact to a minimum.
Three key concepts
Innovation, performance, sustainability.
Everything we develop is measured against the same three words.
Innovation
Non thermal plasma at atmospheric pressure, generating reactive oxygen and nitrogen species out of ordinary air. The technology is patented, and the parameters for each new flow are worked out in our laboratory before a line is built.
Performance
A high abatement rate, held over time. The plasma is modulated to the flow dimension, the odour units or the VOC concentration, so efficiency is held over time and not only at commissioning.
Sustainability
No water, no chemicals, no methane, no CO2 from the treatment, and no waste to dispose. The process respects natural resources because it consumes almost none of them: electricity to sustain the discharge, and the air that is already there.
What we build
From the bench to 140,000 m³/h.
Laboratory machines for finding the parameters. Industrial machines, modular and sized to your flow, for the plant.
The industrial system is modular, so it is sized to the air flow you actually have rather than sold in fixed steps. Installed lines run from 1,000 m³/h to 140,000 m³/h. On the odour side that is probiotics waste, a paper mill, wastewater management, organic waste treatment and management, the automotive industry, a dairy and food processing. On the VOC side it is brake pad production and automotive painting.
It is described as plug and play because that is how it arrives. On the indirect system the reactor itself is small, a cabinet, with a modest duct for the clean-air intake, and the large duct on site is your own process duct, which the system connects to. On the direct system the discharge is built into the duct run instead.
The removal of VOCs and odour is our core area of expertise, with results from several industrial sectors.
How we work with you
From your flow data to a running line.
This is the shape of a project with us. The details differ with every plant, so we describe the sequence plainly rather than promise a schedule for a site we have not seen.
You send us the flow. The flow rate in m³/h, the sector, and what you are treating: odour, VOCs, or both. That is enough for a first honest answer on whether plasma fits, and if it does not, we say so.
We size the system to the flow. The design is modular, so the unit is specified to your air flow, and the plasma parameters are set to the characteristics of what is in it.
We build it ourselves. PURA designs and manufactures its systems, and the industrial unit that reaches you is one of ours.
It connects to your ductwork. For odour, the indirect system: a cabinet with a modest clean-air intake, and one injection point into your main process duct. For VOCs, the direct system: the plasma is generated inside the duct and the flow passes through it. The plasma is then tuned to the flow you actually have.
It runs, and keeps running. There is no media to reorder, so there is no shutdown for a carbon change, and the reactor is a cabinet beside your duct, not a plant of its own.
We do not disappear after commissioning. Our team of specialists stays at your disposal, and if your process changes, the plasma parameters are re-set to it.
We would rather tell you plasma does not fit than sell you a line that does not perform.
Tangible, measurable results are what we want to be judged on.
The technology
Ordinary air, made reactive.
The system is based on our proprietary and patented plasma technology. A non thermal plasma, sustained at atmospheric pressure, produces a high quantity of short lived, highly reactive fragments out of ordinary air, grouped as ROS, reactive oxygen species, and RNS, reactive nitrogen species: the oxygen radicals •OH, •HO₂ and •O, together with reactive nitrogen species. Those radicals attack the pollutant molecules and convert them, in a controlled reaction, into harmless, stable, non-odorous molecules. Nothing is captured and nothing is collected.
We bring that chemistry to your air in two ways. In the indirect system, the one used for odour abatement, the reactor stands outside the contaminated duct: it draws in clean external air, activates it, and injects it into the ductwork you already have, where the reaction runs along the duct before the stack. In the direct system, the one used for VOC abatement, the plasma is generated inside the duct itself and the whole process flow passes through it. In both, the plasma is modulated to the flow rather than sitting at a fixed setting. That is why PURA replaces thermal oxidisers, activated carbon and biofilters, with low energy consumption and no secondary waste.
